Publisher Team17, in partnership with NExT Studios, has just announced that they will soon be releasing adventure RPG Roguelike Crown Trick for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in Q3 2020.
“As we prepared Crown Trick for its release, we wanted to ensure we found a partner that could maximize its success outside of mainland China. With its strong sense of spirit and track record of success, we could not think of any better than Team17," NExT Studios producer Stephen Lin said in a press statement. Lin also added that Crown Trick’s "imaginatively unique synchronous gameplay, coupled with roguelike action, is a compelling and strategic experience, and we’re looking forward to launching it in the West with the support of Team17.”
To complement this, Max Everingham, head of publishing for Team17 added “Crown Trick is roguelike royalty, a beautifully realized and unique experience thanks to its mix of gameplay features, and fits perfectly with our portfolio of titles. The Nightmare Realm, its traps and monsters, and its procedurally generated maze provide a deadly and compelling environment for strategy and RPG fans alike.”
Set in a procedurally generated labyrinthian dungeon, Crown Trick is a turn-based role-playing game filled with roguelike elements. Players are expected to strategize their way to success since enemy decisions are only revealed after the player’s turns. Additionally, there are hundreds of weapons, skills, and items to equip and customize, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses depending on the combat situation. There are also high-level skills called Familiars that can turn the tide of battle in the player’s favor, if they are able to acquire them by overcoming difficult enemies.
Crown Trick has been in the public eye for a while now and is definitely a title fans of roguelikes should look out for. Crown Trick is set to launch for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in Q3 2020. A PlayStation 4 version has also been confirmed, according to an interaction between Gematsu and a Team17 representative. The PS4 version is currently not the priority and all the development team's resources are focused on bringing Crown Trick to Steam and Switch first.
