Seiken Densetsu Collection Secret of Mana gets Japanese release date Square Enix

On Tuesday, Square Enix announced Seiken Densetsu Collection will come to Nintendo Switch in Japan on June 1. As yet, there is no word on whether the collection will be released internationally, though there’s certainly a vocal group of fans who would love to play the sequel to Secret of Mana that never made its way abroad.

Seiken Densetsu Collection will include all three games in the series, and will support multiplayer (up to three at a time). It doesn’t appear these games are getting a graphical update; the first one is still in black and white. Still, Gematsu reports there will be some new features included in the collection: Quick Save, a Screen Change mode (to accommodate the Game Boy screen ratio in the first Seiken Densetsu), and Music Mode to enjoy the music from every game.

The second game in the series earned a devoted fan following outside Japan as the SNES title Secret of Mana. The original Seiken Densetsu was released for Game Boy in North America as Final Fantasy Adventure, and in Europe as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (not to be confused with the other SNES game called Final Fantasy Mystic Quest). An enhanced remake of the first game in the series, Sword of Mana, was released in both Europe and North America.

Given that Seiken Densetsu Collection looks to be a straight-up port, as opposed to a remaster, we’re not holding our breath that Square Enix is going to localize all three games any time soon. Those living outside Japan with language skills could always purchase a digital copy (requires a Japanese Nintendo account).

If you’re eager to see an international release of Seiken Densetsu Collection, a friendly tweet in Square Enix’s direction certainly couldn’t hurt. Here’s the company’s North American and European Twitter pages.

If you haven’t played before, you should check out Secret of Mana in the meantime. It’s a SNES classic for a reason, and currently available on Android for $8.99 or iOS for $7.99.

Are you hoping Seiken Densetsu Collection gets an international release? Are there any other old-school classics you’d like to see on the Nintendo Switch? Let us know in the comments!
