A free expansion to Shadowrun: Hong Kong , courtesy of developer Harebrained Schemes, will add five hours of gameplay to fans of last summer’s cyberpunk RPG. Harebrained Schemes will also add bonus dev audio commentary. Shadowrun: Hong Kong - Extended Edition will be free to everyone who already owns the game, the developers confirmed on Facebook over the weekend.
Almost ready to go back to Hong Kong? We're adding 5+ hours of gameplay and a Dev Audio Commentary! (Same low price, lots more content! And updated free to everyone who already has the game!)

The developers also noted that players will need to complete Shadowrun: Hong Kong in order to import their character into the additional content. Finally, they shot down any hopes of an iOS release for Shadowrun: Hong Kong due to the game’s memory requirements.
“The main game is a full story but the addition of the Bonus campaign (the mini-campaign from the Kickstarter) continues the story in Hong Kong,” the developers stated .
The developers posted a link to a short clip of the dev team audio commentary, which is accessible through Soundcloud here .
In our positive review of Shadowrun: Hong Kong , we stated:
“ Shadowrun fans will find a lot to like about this game. It checks all the boxes for a robust Shadowrun experience. Anyone who enjoyed Dragonfall would be wise to double-down and purchase Shadowrun: Hong Kong . And anyone who didn’t and felt like they missed out can dive right in. It’s accessible, entertaining and priced just right.”
For anyone who missed out on the Shadowrun experience the first time around, the Extended Edition should prove a fruitful add-on to a rich world worth many hours of your time. Though details are scant for now, the fact that the additional content is not a paid DLC but a free game update is also great news.
It’s also worth noting that Shadowrun: Hong Kong comes with a ton of UGC. Harebrained Schemes made it a point to include the level editor with every copy of the game to make it easy for fans to design their own adventures, a la the pen-and-paper tabletop roots of the Shadowrun franchise. Anyone feeling starved for content should browse the Steam Workshop for more missions, campaigns and more.
