The immersive sandbox detective sim Shadows of Doubt is launching on Steam Early Access this April 24. In the game, you take on the role of a renowned private investigator in an alternate reality in the hyper-industrialized 1980s.
When the game becomes available on early access, it's going to offer "The Dead of Night," a specially crafted case that introduces players to the game. There will also be a Sandbox Mode which features an endless number of cases to investigate and civilians to meet. Plus, this mode has different and dense procedurally-generated cities for everyone to explore.
The early access roadmap is set to be revealed next month to outline additional content and features of the game. The full 1.0 release is happening sometime later this year.
In the game, players need to think like a detective and investigate crimes to catch a serial killer. To crack each case, they’ll need to use various gadgets and explore unique and sci-fi noir cities as part of the investigation. Players will meet individual citizens, each having their own name, job, apartment, and daily routine. Each case can be approached through various activities like scanning fingerprints, checking call histories, reading private emails, and watching CCTV. Players can bribe citizens, pick locks, break down doors, and sabotage security systems as well.
Game features include:
- Become a private investigator and track down a serial killer in a fully simulated sci-fi city.
- Take on new cases to earn cash, purchase new gadgets and equipment, and customize your apartment.
- Gather evidence to build your case like scan fingerprints, check call histories, read private emails, watch CCTV, and find key pieces of evidence to gather information and accuse your suspect.
- Play your own way and pick locks, break down doors, sabotage security systems and bribe citizens for information. Players can also stick to the law and play by the book.
- Explore every room in every building and talk to every citizen.
