The 29th film in Toho’s storied Godzilla franchise will be hitting North American shores for a limited engagement in theatres on Oct. 11 to 18, Funimation has announced. The screenings will take place in over 440 theaters across the U.S. and Canada.
“We are thrilled to bring ‘SHIN GODZILLA’ to theaters across North America this October,” said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and president of Funimation , in a press release. “Toho established Godzilla as one of the most iconic monsters in science fiction history and we’re honored to now be a part of that history with the theatrical release of this new movie. Fans will not want to miss this limited theatrical event.“
Shin Godzilla (also known as Godzilla: Resurgence ) is co-directed by Hideaki Anno (creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion ) and Shinji Higuchi (director of last year’s live-action Attack on Titan movie), and spoilers indicate that the pair’s background very much informs Godzilla’s surprising new origin. “Movie audiences can look forward to a great time watching ’SHIN GODZILLA’ this October,” said Mike DuBoise, EVP and COO of Funimation , in a press statement. “A larger than life monster like Godzilla has to be experienced on the big screen. And we expect this movie to sell out in numerous theaters so we encourage fans to purchase tickets in advance.”
There will be two premieres of Shin Godzilla , one on Oct. 3 in Los Angeles and one on Oct. 5 in New York before New York Comic Con ’s opening day, with further details to be announced.
Tickets for Shin Godzilla will be available for pre-purchase on the official film website beginning Sept. 9. Will you be getting your ticket?
