The Sims 4 October 2017 update not only fixes a few bugs ahead of the highly anticipated Sims 4: Cats & Dogs expansion pack, it also adds Diwali-themed items to the Holiday Celebration Pack (if you don’t have it already, you'll need to download the Holiday Celebration Pack before the new update). This October patch has nine new objects and seven new Create a Sim assets to get in the spirit — Rangoli designs and ground candles, a Diya (oil lamp), drapey wall lights, hairstyles with accessories, and a variety of beautiful clothing options.
The Diwali holiday dates back to ancient times in India. The festival takes place after the summer harvest in the Hindu calendar month of Kartika and falls on October 19 this year. The lamps (diyas) represent parts of the sun, the cosmic giver of light and energy to all life. It is an official holiday in a number of countries, including India, Fiji, Indonesia, Nepal, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, Diwali is still very much celebrated in the Sindh province of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Thailand, New Zealand, Guyana and many more places across the world.
The Sims 4 has made a conscious effort to be more inclusive in a number of ways, such as the addition of ethnically diverse features to Create-A-Sim and reconfiguring the interface to include more gender fluidity. The City Living expansion pack also added much more culture to the game by introducing an arcane amount of cuisines, recipes, and regional clothing. The decision to focus on Diwali this year instead of sticking to the same old Christmas and Halloween comes as no surprise.
The main bug fix in this update Sim movement. Seated Sims instructed to wash dishes will wash said dishes in the closest sink —no matter if it’s a counter sink or stand-alone sink—no matter the complex route path to the sink. Thank sweet baby Jesus. It should not take an hour for a Sim to do the dishes. This is one of the many advantages to a small home. Say, you have two kitchens. Some Sims tend to prioritize one over the other, collecting dishes around the house then going all the way upstairs to complete the task. It’s so annoying. Let’s pray this fix works. Check out the full patch notes below.
Update: 10/17/2017
Hey Simmers,
This update brings with it an update to the Holiday Celebration Pack – Diwali!
9 new objects and 7 new Create a Sim assets to help you celebrate Diwali.
You will need to download the Holiday Celebration Pack (if you have not already done so), completely free, in order to access these new assets. Just click on the Holiday Celebration Pack from the Main menu “Your Collection” section, and add it to your game… freely free!
Once in game, you can find them by looking for the Holiday Pack filter in Create a Sim and Build Mode.
New Create a Sim assets in the Holiday Celebration Pack:
Full body outfits for adults
Full body outfits for children
A female child earring accessory
Adult, female hair
Child, female hair
New objects in the Holiday Celebration Pack:
Diya, a clay lamp
3 rangoli inspired rugs, each with several colorful patterns
A 3x3 grid of candle lights that you can place on top of other objects, such as the rangoli inspired rugs.
Warning: The placement of open flames on top of your favorite rug is NOT recommended in the IRL dream.
4 different wall hanging string “not real but they do glow like they were real” lights, that can be mixed, matched, and overlapped to create interesting displays of festive (not) lights.
And, a couple Issues
We addressed an issue that resulted in some GeForce 1080 TI and 1060 users receiving an “Unrecognized Video Card” error message upon launch.
Seated Sims directed to wash dishes should no longer prioritize counter sinks over stand-alone sinks regardless of distance or complex route path to sink.
If I could somehow describe the video attached with this issue, I could paint a picture of the directorial debut of an up and coming film genius!
ZZ, we in the dev studio congratulate you, on your issue-videography skills!
And to everyone else…
We’re feline’ pretty good. Our catitude is pawsitive, and in just a mew short weeks, you too can have in your pawssession, the purrfect companion fur your Sims. I know, we want it in our cat-alog meow, but patience, fleas, all good things in mew time.
Until then, don’t worry about who’s got your tongue, the bag is just fine being empty, and one day we’ll catch curiosity and lock him up for what he’s done!
