The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the Nintendo Switch’s most anticipated ports, and Bethesda confirmed during E3 that it would launch later this year. If an updated Amazon store listing is any indication, the title could be on store shelves by Nov. 28.
As with all retail leaks, fans should take this one with a grain of salt, but there are a few reasons why this surprising reveal might be accurate. For one, Nov. 28 is on a Tuesday, and that’s when the vast majority of triple-A retail titles release in the U.S. Nov. 28 also seems like a pretty specific date, as opposed to something like Nov. 30 or Dec. 1. Typically when release dates are listed at the tail end or beginning of a month, the data is merely a placeholder. Listing the date as Nov. 28 is slightly more exact.
Beyond those facts, Nov. 28 just seems like it would be the correct release date for a major title like this one. Even though Skyrim is about to celebrate its sixth birthday, the game itself is still widely played and fondly remembered by RPG fans everywhere. This brand still has the cache to be noticed in this fall’s hot Nintendo Switch lineup, and it’s smart to have a brand new version of the game on sale for holiday shoppers.
Should the date be accurate, it would certainly signal a jam-packed holiday season for Nintendo’s new console. For those who need a refresher, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle launches Aug. 29 and will be followed by Pokkén Tournament DX on Sept. 22. Super Mario Odyssey keeps the hype train going on Oct. 27, and Skyrim could cap it all off the following month. In other words, if you’re looking for a good reason to play your new console in the latter half of the year, it shouldn’t be too hard to find plenty of options.
For those who missed the boat on this interesting port, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Nintendo Switch is a fully realized version of the classic RPG that players can experience on their TVs or on the go. Specific to the Nintendo Switch version, players will be able to take advantage of Joy-Con motion controls and Amiibo support with exclusive The Legend Of Zelda clothing, Hylian Shield and Master Sword gear . It’s possible more Amiibo may be supported as well, but that’s the only confirmed addition.
It remains unclear how Skyrim for Nintendo Switch stacks up against the PS4 and Xbox One special editions that released last year. We also aren’t sure if the Switch version will support mods in the same way consoles and PCs do. We expect Bethesda will answer those lingering questions in due time, but the publisher has remained quiet for now.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Nintendo Switch is officially slated for a holiday 2017 launch.
