We may have our first concrete evidence of Cyberpunk 2077 releasing this year.
CD Projekt RED’s most ambitious title to date, Cyberpunk 2077, has its release date listed by a Slovakian gaming store called ProGamingShop as coming this November 28, 2019. The listing also states it for the PC, along with a sleeve art cover that just states the game’s title set against a black background.
Earlier last week I reported on a recent job listing made on CD Projekt RED’s site, which called for a Release Manager to help the company coordinate game launches between different partners. This may be part of CD Projekt RED’s finalization of the upcoming game, as well as them readying for an imminent launch later this year.
The listing for the date itself has already been written off by some, since November 28 falls on Thanksgiving, and on a Thursday. Video games in general typically release on Tuesdays and Fridays, and never before on a Thanksgiving. It’s still worth pointing out that Cyberpunk 2077 has multiple distributors from around the world working together to release the game. In North America, distribution is expected to be carried out by Warner Bros., and Bandai Namco will handle distribution in 24 different European countries, although Slovakia is not listed as one of them. Thus, it is entirely possible that it may release in Slovakia at this later date of November 28, and the rest of the expected countries could release it earlier during the same week.
With all this speculation going on, it’s still worth noting that CD Projekt RED has stated no definite date or timeline to the game’s release, only saying that they will release Cyberpunk 2077 when it’s ready.
The hype has certainly been palpable ever since Cyberpunk 2077’s first gameplay footage was released last year. The bar is raised ever higher for its developer and publisher CD Projekt RED, a company whose fast, and certainly meteoric rise can be attributed to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was released three years prior. The game received critical and commercial success and is now a defining title in how to do open-world games right.
If there’s any confirmation on when the game will be released, it will most likely be made at this year’s E3. Expect more coverage from us as soon as it drops.
