The Sniper Ghost Warrior series may not have the same notoriety as the Sniper Elite franchise, but CI Games is hoping it can make some headway among PC gamers with a newly announced open beta for Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming beta test, including registration and content details.
Beginning this week, anyone interested in the upcoming Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 open beta can register for a spot in the test on the game’s website. Unfortunately, the SGW3 beta will only be available on PC, leaving PS4 and Xbox One owners with little choice but to hope their favorite streamer(s) are broadcasting the game on YouTube, Twitch or Beam. On the plus side, we’re still a few months removed from the Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 release date (April 4), so it’s always possible that CI Games could be planning a separate console test.
Those who do participate in next month’s SGW3 beta will be able to complete two missions, both set in the Republic of Georgia, which highlight the different tasks players will undertake when Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 debuts this spring. One puts players on the trail of Ivan Krustchev, a war criminal on protagonist Jonathan North’s Most Wanted list, while the other asks Jon to sneak inside a military compound and disrupt its satellite signa.
Here are the studio’s official descriptions for the two missions:
Cut Off
The Separatists control a large antenna array, which lets them use satellites to track enemy movements and communicate with distant outposts. Jon needs to infiltrate this compound and manually reposition the dishes to intercept the satellite signal. Gaining access to enemy communications would give Jon and his team a tactical advantage over the enemy, as well as possible intel on his brother, Robert.
Blockout
Jon's cooperation with the local resistance, the Rotki Lions, gave him the location of one of the targets from his Most Wanted list – a list containing the names of war criminals that Jon can neutralize to bring justice to the people of Georgia. The target is Ivan Krustchev. He's hiding out in an abandoned apartment complex, surrounded by his guards. How will you complete this mission? Will you use your sniper rifle from the opposite building, storm the outpost with your assault rifle, or sneak past the guards and quietly take out your target?
