Hey, remember how Sonic the Hedgehog used to be a name that meant quality video games? SEGA doesn’t, which is why it just revealed a new Sonic movie coming in 2018, according to a report by The Worldfolio.
During a discussion around the merger of SEGA and Sammy, Hajime Santomi, President and CEO of Sega Sammy Holdings, told The Worldfolio about the upcoming Sonic movie.
“Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movie scheduled for release in 2018,” Satomi told The Worldfolio. “Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved.”
Wait a second, a live action and animated hybrid movie? Does this mean Sonic will be animated, but other characters like Dr. Eggman will be a real human? That sounds like the worst thing. Like, the literal worst thing.
Granted, this isn’t Sonic’s first foray out of the world of video games. He has starred in a number of cartoons, and can be spotted briefly in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph.
