Sony is Reportedly Already Working on PlayStation 6 with a Prototype Supposedly in Working Condition

Sony is rumored to be working on the PlayStation 6 and showed off a working prototype to development partners at the Tokyo Game Show. Sony

Rumors are spreading online that Sony is already working on PlayStation 6 a few weeks after the company officially revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The speculations come as the studio also supposedly has a working prototype that was shown off to partners at the Tokyo Game Show. Sony is seemingly working quietly behind the scenes to share the latest model of the console with development partners.

PlayStation 6 Rumors

The rumors began after Russian journalist Anton Logvinov posted on his Telegram account. He claimed that Sony has been showing off the PlayStation 6, or rather a working prototype, to various parties.

So far, it is unclear whether or not Sony was showing off PlayStation 6 games or PlayStation 5 games running on the console.

However, the idea that the new console was at the event in any capacity would suggest that the next generation is coming sooner than anyone would have thought, according to Gaming Bible.

For now, the most prevalent leaks and rumors about the PlayStation 6 suggest that Sony is planning a release window of 2028. This timeline makes sense as the last few console generations had a lifespan of about seven to eight years.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is also releasing soon and marks a clear mid-point for this particular console generation.

If the PlayStation 6 is still four years away, it is possible that Sony is already showcasing a working version of the unit to developers so they can prepare accordingly.

The possible 2028 release window for the PlayStation 6 also coincides with the release of a new Xbox from Microsoft based on leaked documents. But since the documents are a few years old, it is entirely possible that this timeline has changed, Comic Book said.

The End of the PlayStation 5's Life Cycle

The rumors come after Sony senior vice president Naomin Matsuoka said earlier this year that the PlayStation 5 will enter the latter stage of its life cycle.

She did not outright say that the studio was working on PlayStation 6. However, many fans assumed that the company was already looking ahead to developing its new console.

For now, there is not much information to go by in trying to figure out what fans could expect from the PlayStation 6. However, many are already starting to speculate on how Sony could improve upon the PlayStation 5, according to Digital Trends.

The price of the PlayStation 6 is nearly impossible to estimate with any degree of certainty right now. This is primarily because there is nothing to suggest what specs it could have or how powerful it plans to be.
