Soulcalibur VI has finally been announced! At the 2017 Game Awards, Bandai Namco released a world premiere trailer for the long standing fighting game.
There’s not too much information about the mechanics of Soulcalibur VI but you can check it out below.
Soulcalibur VI will run on Unreal Engine 4 and we have two confirmed characters for the upcoming fighting game. We have the samurai, Mitsurugi and one of the main female fighters in the game.
The blonde is either Sophitia or Cassandra but the blue garments makes it seem like it’s Cassandra. However, the offiical Bandai Namco press released confirms that it is indeed Sophitia.
Another character will be in Soulcalibur VI when it releases later this year but their face wasn’t shown. Instead fans got a look at the weapon, which looks like a metal staff. Could this be the long-awaited return of Kilik? Fans will have to wait to find out.
The battle mechanics do look different in Soulcalibur VI with the dodging and weapons beginning to glow. The official press release explains the new mechanic. SOULCALIBUR VI retains the series’ signature 8-Way Run movement system, providing super smooth 3D movement, while integrating new gameplay systems such as the exciting Reversal Edge. Reversal Edge enables characters to clash against each other and follow-up with powerful counterattacks based on their opponent’s actions. Challenge the computer AI, compete against friends, or challenge fighters from around the world in high-speed dynamic battles with jaw-dropping visual effects.
Taking place in the 16th century, revisit the events of the original SOULCALIBUR to uncover hidden truths with a diverse lineup of new and returning characters with their unique fighting styles including series mainstays; Mitsurugi and Sophitia.
There’s a lot we don’t know about this new installment but we’ll be receiving more information as we get closer to E3 in June 2018.
Soulcalibur VI will release sometime in 2018.
The most recent mainline Soulcalibur game was, Soulcalibur 5, which released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. It was set 17 years after the previous entry and focused on the children of Sophitia. Since Soulcalibur 5, Bandai Namco re-released an HD version of Soulcalibur 2 and released Soulcalibur: Lost Swords, a free-to-play version of the game based on Soulcalibur 5.
