Developer Compulsion Games confirms that the action adventure "South of Midnight" will have an official release date of Apr. 8, 2025, and that pre-orders are now open.
The game takes inspiration from the deep south and lets players encounter various monsters from folklore from that region in the United States. The protagonist in "South of Midnight" is Hazel, who is seen arguing with her mother before a supernatural hurricane batters their home.
South of Midnight Official Release Date
This cuts everything short and separates the two, leaving Hazel to wander the swamps, where she encounters giant alligators, giant fish, giant dolls, and giant people. The trailer also confirms the official release date for "South of Midnight."
The trailer was shared to the public during the latest Xbox Developer Direct and it showed off more details about the game's story.
These include the protagonist's motives and the various mythical and human figures that will be featured in the game, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.
One of the creatures that was showcased was Huggin' Molly, which is a mythical creature from Abbeville, Alabama. This is a ghostly figure that is said to stalk any young kid when they are out late at night.
This particular figure will grab, hug, and scream at you if she manages to catch you. The latest trailer for "South of Midnight" marks the third major look at Hazel's misadventures.
A previous one showed how players would be able to face off against a big-armed miniboss bozo.
The Deep South
The release date trailer also showed players the long-limbed guitar player known as Shakin' Bones. On top of these mythical creatures, "South of Midnight" seems to be making use of a stop-motion art style, Screen Rant said.
Additionally, the game features a blues-inspired soundtrack and what looks to be very fun platforming and combat mechanics. The latest trailer showed off some gameplay and gave more details about the development process for "South of Midnight."
What players know so far is that the action-adventure game will be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC when it launches later this year. Furthermore, it would also be available on any platform where Game Pass can be streamed.
