Did Marvel fans finally get their wish? Multiple news outlets have reported that Donald Glover -- multi-talented extraordinaire of Community, 30 Rock, stand-up comedy and musical fame -- has joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the MCU debut of Peter Parker, played by British actor Tom Holland. The 20-year-old made his introduction in Captain America: Civil War to rave reviews, which has fans excited for the Spidey revival following years of subpar offerings from Sony. So, how does Glover, perhaps better known as rapper Childish Gambino, factor into the equation?

As you may recall, Glover was the subject of viral Twitter campaign #donald4spiderman back in 2010. He ended up losing out on the part to Andrew Garfield, who subsequently starred in The Amazing Spiderman 1 & 2. But Glover never stopped dreaming of the opportunity. “Of course, I would always be honored to play Spider-Man,” he told Yahoo as recently as last year.

With Holland now in the driver’s seat, Glover certainly won’t be playing Spider-Man this time around. Or could he? Recent rumors claim a new feature animated Spider-Man film directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller could star Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker in 2018. And who exactly is Miles Morales? Here’s an excerpt from Comic Book:

Miles Morales was created in 2011 by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli. Morales took over as the Spider-Man of the Ultimate Marvel Universe after the death of that universe’s Peter Parker. Miles first met the original Peter Parker in the Spider-Men crossover event, and the two crossed paths again in the Spider-Verse event.

It just so happens that Miles Morales is half black, half Puerto Rican, and Glover voiced the biracial Spider-Man in Disney XD’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.

Details on Glover’s role in Spider-Man: Homecoming are tightly guarded for now, but there’s a strong possibility audiences are introduced to two brand new Spider- Men in the near future.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters July 7, 2017. Stay tuned for updates.
