The cast for the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery has been missing a captain… until now. Actor Jason Isaacs (Lucious Malfoy, A Cure for Wellness) tweeted he’d be sitting in the captain’s chair for the next Star Trek. The tweet was deleted a few minutes later.
Isaacs will join James T. Kirk (William Shatner), Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), Benjamin Sisko (Avery Brooks), Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) in the rarefied canon of previous Trek captains.
Here’s the since-deleted tweet:
However, unlike previous entries in the series, Isaacs’ captain, Lorca, will not be the main character. Instead, Discovery will mostly follow lower-ranking crew members, with Lieutenant Commander Rainsford, played by Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), as the show’s lead.
The plot of Star Trek: Discovery will also break new ground for a Star Trek series by closely involving multiple ships in the fleet. Isaacs will serve alongside another United Federation of Planets captain played by Michelle Yeoh: Captain Georgiou.
Unfortunately, there may still be a substantial wait before Captain Georgiou, Lieutenant Commander Rainsford and Jason Isaacs’ unnamed captain make it to screen, as Star Trek: Discovery has suffered several delays and setbacks. It’s currently expected to premiere at the end of this summer.
