Attention all Captains! The Infinity Lock Box offered in Star Trek Online includes a new starship. Starting today, players now have the chance to get and captain the Merian Command Science Dreadnought (T6). This is a rescue and support vessel, which played an important role in the events seen in Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery. By the way, for now, it's limited to players on PC.
It's pretty much proof that the United Federation of Planets is always going to have a need for starships specializing in rescue and relief missions. The Merian class was known for taking on that role with distinction, especially during the dark times that followed The Burn. This starship has specialized systems focused on being a bulwark against harmful elements to provide protection and support for those most in need.
Reactive Radiometric Shielding
This Merian-class starship has shielding that offers multiple functionalities. For example, it doesn't only provide immunity to all forms of harmful radiation but also boosts Damage Resistance to all other forms of Energy Damage by a respectable amount.
Any incoming Energy Damage is converted into a 5-km Radius pulse which deals with Radiation Damage to foes. It also restores the hull to allies, based on the amount of incoming damage that triggered the pulse and was resisted (prevented) by this shielding and any other forms of damage resistance your ship may have.
The pulse though has its limits. The healing it can provide can't go more than 5,000 per pulse, and the radiation damage dealt to foes cannot exceed 10,000 per pulse.
Scientific Bulwark
Activating any Bridge Officer Ability that increases Damage Resistance Rating also provides a boost to the player’s Control Expertise, Drain Expertise, and Exotic Particle Generator skills. This bonus lasts 15 seconds and may be stacked up to 5 times.
