If Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson is right, I’ll be $100 richer on Dec. 15, 2017. That’s the amount I have staked in a very simple bet: whether or not Supreme Leader Snoke’s true identity is Luke Skywalker.

You’ve probably heard a lot of the theories. Supreme Leader Snoke is Darth Plagueis. Supreme Leader Snoke is Palpatine somehow. Supreme Leader Snoke is an Inquisitor from a kids’ cartoon. But Luke Skywalker drawing in Force wielders like Rey and Kylo Ren, then revealing himself as a new tyrant for a new age… this was a novel one (though one I’ve since seen iterated a few times online).

The evidence is flimsy at best. It’s one of those fan theories that relies on innuendo, deep reads and weaponizing the absence of evidence to the contrary. Whatever. There’s no real reason to drag up and refute every element of this implausible Episode 8 fan theory when director Rian Johnson has done such a succinct job of it:

Let this image suffice for all of the dumb Supreme Leader Snoke theories out there.
