Star Wars fans don’t have to worry about Disney digitally recreating Carrie Fisher’s likeness in a future film.
Fisher died at the age of 60 after she suffered a heart attack back in December. It didn’t take long for Star Wars fans to speculate about what Disney and Lucasfilm would do about Leia’s role in Star Wars Episode 9 . Multiple reports claimed Fisher completed her work on Star Wars Episode 8 and Disney executives were meeting about what they would do in Star Wars Episode 9 .
Rumors began circulating that Disney was considering digitally recreating General Organa as they did with Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One . Lucasfilm felt it necessary to address the rumors in a statement on StarWars.com. The full statement reads:
“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.
“Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars .”
Shortly after Fisher’s death, her mother Debbie Reynolds also died. We don’t believe Disney ever considered digitally recreating General Organa for Star Wars Episode 9 . Grand Moff Tarkin’s appearance was done with permission from his estate and was carefully considered by the studio. It would be way too soon to see Fisher’s digital likeness on film.
