The latest Nintendo Direct held a plethora of exciting news and announcements for the Nintendo Switch, with classics getting ported for the console and new developments on upcoming releases.
Two of the best Star Wars games ever made will be making their way to both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 soon. As announced by publisher Aspyr Media, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is headed to the Switch and PS4 later this September, while Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy will be heading to the same platforms in 2020. Both games are available now on PC via Steam.
The Star Wars Jedi Knight series are comprised of both third-person and first-person action games, and all four of them feature Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial officer who becomes a Jedi and later an instructor at the Jedi Academy. Perhaps the biggest selling point of the entire series and what it is most acclaimed for is its amazingly implemented utilization of lightsabers, which for me is still unbeatable to this day. Although it’s a bit sad that there’s little hope for a new title in the series since Disney and EA are in control of the future of Star Wars video games for now, we can only hope that the lightsaber battles in the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order can live up to these classics.
The series kicked off with Star Wars: Dark Forces back in 1995, followed by Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II in 1997. The games receiving rereleases are the final two in the series, with Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast first releasing in 2002 and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy in 2003. According to Aspyr Media, both rereleases will be bringing back their highly popular online multiplayer game modes, as well as featuring Gyro Aiming support for the Switch Joy-cons.
Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is coming to the Switch and PS4 on September 24, while Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy will be headed to the same platforms in early 2020.
