Stardew Valley is finally getting Mac and Linux support, developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone announced this week, but fans of the open-world country life sim will have to wait a bit longer for most of the other big features previously confirmed to be in development.
It’s been just under five months, since Stardew Valley debuted on Steam, and the game’s popularity has grown exponentially in that time. There have been millions of sales, along with a fair amount of piracy, and promises of ongoing post-launch support from the developer. Barone has already committed to multiplayer support, further expansion of the game’s relationship system and a variety of other big changes. We’ll even see Stardew Valley make the jump to PS4, Xbox One and Wii U later this year. And this week, Barone confirmed the wait is nearly over for those still waiting on official Mac and Linux support for Stardew Valley.
According to Barone, Mac and Linux builds of the game will debut next Friday, July 29; perfect timing for anyone anxious to take part in their own Stardew Valley marathon. There’s no word on the console ports, which are expected in Q4, but the game’s creator did confirm he’s still working on multiplayer support, additional localizations and Stardew Valley’s highly anticipated 1.1 update.
Stardew Valley is in development for PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, Mac and Linux. The game is out now for Windows, heads to Mac and Linux on July 29 and is expected to hit consoles later this year.
