2017 is shaping up to be a big year for the Steep community. Frankly, we’re a bit shocked to be discussing the winter sports game this far removed from its December 2016 debut, given how few people seemed to be playing after launch. But a new expansion pack, combined with the promise of Olympic-themed content later this year, gives Steep fans plenty to be excited about.
This week’s Steep expansion, the Xtreme Pack, brings three new sports to Ubisoft’s winter wonderland. All of which would end in terribly painful deaths, should the vast majority of us ever attempt them in real life. Skydiving fans can look forward to the addition of Rocket Wings, an alternative to the wingsuit that lets Steep players “cruise through the air at breakneck speed.” Rocket Wings will make it significantly easier to traverse Ubisoft’s digital recreation of the Alps and the game’s Alaska expansion, but also make obstacles (like tall trees) deadlier than ever.
The Xtreme Pack will also introduce Speed Riding, a combination of skiing and paragliding that lets players create much longer and more creative runs than either sport could muster on its own. Strapping a parachute onto a skier’s back also gives them new options for starting a run, including leaping from heights that wouldn’t normally be safe. Last, but certainly not least, this week’s Steep DLC also introduces BASE Jumping. It sounds like Ubisoft’s primary goal with the last addition is to focus on runs created by jumping off mountain peaks. But we’re sure the Steep community will find a few buildings, antennas and spans to leap from too.

Steep is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game’s next expansion, the Xtreme Pack , can be purchased from PSN, Xbox Live and Steam for $9.99.
