Strange Brigade Gameplay Demo Offers Early Look At Rebellion's Co-Op Shooter

Strange Brigade Rebellion

We got a new look at Strange Brigade, the upcoming cooperative shooter from Rebellion, along with new information about the game’s story and characters. But there are still some structural questions to be answered about the project, and those answers will need to emerge pretty quickly if Strange Brigade is really headed to PC and consoles in the near future.

What we do know is that Strange Brigade follows a four-person squad of British special agents who specialize in locating and retrieving long-forgotten treasures. The team has been asked to find the fabled City of Angels and will travel to the remains of several ancient civilizations in its search for the settlement. Each member of the team have their own unique abilities and combat attributes. Some wield a shotgun like a butcher’s knife, making short work of anyone unfortunate enough to wind up in close range, while others utilize a combination of environmental traps and long range weaponry to keep enemy hordes at bay.

The footage shown during E3 left us with a number of questions about the game’s structure. There doesn’t seem to be any shortage of enemies to shoot and Rebellion says players can expect to find plenty of loot in Strange Brigade. But it’s not clear if the campaign is just a series of Horde Mode scenarios, with class-specific secret rooms to encourage group play, or something more akin to Left 4 Dead, which separated big battles with bits of exploration and platforming. We do get to see several different environments in the E3 2017 demo. But it’s not clear if said locales are all part of the same mission or if we’re seeing bits and pieces of several different scenarios.

For an early look at Strange Brigade, set aside 10 minutes to watch Rebellion’s E3 gameplay demo. Then head down to the comments section and let us know what you’re hoping to see in Strange Brigade when the game debuts later this year.

Strange Brigade is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game is expected to debut sometime in 2017.
