The Street Fighter V story mode will be a huge part of the Feb. 16 release date. To prepare fans, Capcom is slowly unveiling what we should expect when the front-runner for best fighting game of 2016 finally arrives.
With a nice mix of old and new fighters, Street Fighter V will look to take the franchise to the next level. And to do that, a great story is needed. Capcom released the Street Fighter V story mode trailer along with details surrounding the game and its post-launch plans.
The Street Fighter V story mode gives players the opportunity to play through individual character stories and learn important background information on each character like how they fit in the story of the game and their relationships with other characters.
This will be especially useful for the newer characters in Street Fighter V.
Each character story will have a recognizable throwback art style created by Bengus, a famous Japanese illustrator who has worked on a variety of past Street Fighter projects.
The individual character stories will serve as a compelling prologue for the Street Fighter V cinematic story expansion, which will be released in June 2016 as a free update to all players. The story takes place between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III and bridges the events that happen in between. This is the first time in franchise history that fans will be able to play through this type of cinematic story in a Street Fighter game.
As for post-launch content, players can complete each individual character story and other single-player content to earn Fight Money to purchase new characters and more.
Capcom is timing the release of the in-game store to coincide with the first post-launch content drop in March, giving players plenty of time to accumulate Fight Money. When the game is first released, there will be no downloadable content to purchase using earnable Fight Money or real currency (known as Zenny).
But if you want to get the jump on Street Fighter V before its official release date, Capcom confirmed today that a fourth and final beta will run from Jan. 30-31 as a bonus to all fans and supporters.
So what do you think of the Street Fighter V story mode and Capcom’s post-launch plans?
