It's just been confirmed that the Oculus Rift headset will be shipping out to those who pre-ordered some time in March. That's certainly exciting news for those who have been paying attention to the virtual reality trend in gaming right now. So now that we know when the Rift headset is getting shipped, and we also know how much it will cost (roughly $600), the only question that remains is: what can I actually do with this thing?
Don't worry, there are already plenty of games that support the Oculus Rift headset, with many more coming as well. We've compiled a short list of some of the best experiences you can have with your new Rift that will be available as soon as you open the box.
The 9 Best Oculus Rift-Supported Games At Launch
These games will all support the Oculus Rift right at launch.
Half life 2
If you're looking for a contender for the greatest game ever made, Half Life 2 is definitely in the conversation. Want to feel even more immersed in the goings-on of City 17, the creepy Ravenholm, and a seemingly endless amount of sewers? Try playing through the classic with a Rift on.
Elite: Dangerous
Elite: Dangerous is a massive, ambitious space exploration game. Thanks to the Rift, you can really get yourself into a cockpit of one of the many futuristic spaceships found here, and blast off across the galaxy in a hunt for action, adventure, and fortune.
Hawken
Want to blow stuff up in a giant mech suit? Of course you do. That's why Hawken features Oculus Rift support.
Euro Truck Simulator
While this may sound like a joke of a game, there's a certain serenity that you can achieve while playing Euro Truck Simulator. If you have ever wanted to really know what it's like driving a big rig around Europe, now's your chance.
Surgeon Simulator
Unlike the previous entry, Surgeon Simulator IS a joke game. That doesn't make it any less fun though. Be prepared for all sorts of wacky, gorey things flying at your face while you try to tackle these operations.
Alien: Isolation
Want to get so incredibly scared that you just may soil yourself? Alien: Isolation is the game for you. This tense, stealth-heavy action game sees you on board a spaceship, crawling and hiding your way to safety while avoiding getting mauled by the scariest incarnation of the Alien yet.
Lucky's Tale
Lucky's Tale is one of the only games on this list that has been built specifically for the Oculus Rift. Not only does the game look like it will feature fantastic 3D platforming, it's also a free game for those who pre-ordered an Oculus Rift, coming bundled with the Rift headset.
EVE: Valkyrie
Like Lucky's Tale, EVE: Valkyrie will also be coming bundled with the Oculus Rift for those who pre-ordered the headset. This space dogfighting game is really slick, and is a great demo for what the Oculus Rift can do. Definitely give it a try when you get your headset.
Technolust
Lastly, Technolust was just recently confirmed to be a launch game for the Oculus Rift. Technolust is a cyberpunk-style game inspired by sci-fi such as Bladerunner, Neuromancer and Robocop. As for gameplay, this one sounds a little odd. Mostly it seems players will just be exploring areas, but there are puzzles to solve and other things to experience as well.
