After five seasons the Game of Thrones cast have become experts at dodging specific questions and avoiding spoilers. But sometimes a plot point manages to slip through the cracks. Such was the case when Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth, may have confirmed the method and timing behind Jon Snow’s resurrection in the Season 6 premiere.
“The first episode to kick off with [Melisandre] – without saying anything again – is astonishing. There’s absolutely amazing stuff coming up, just so left of field,” Cunningham told the UK's Daily Express.
While everyone knows Jon Snow will return to life, there’s been a lot of debate over the exact method of his resurrection. Attentive readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels that serve as the basis for HBO’s Game of Thrones have good reason to believe Jon Snow warged into his direwolf, Ghost, at the moment of his death. The exact mechanics of how Snow will return to his body will have to wait for The Winds of Winter release date.
Many people thought the warg solution would be unlikely on Game of Thrones. For one thing, wargs have played a much smaller role on the HBO series than in the novels. The main warg point of contact, Bran, didn’t even appear in all of Game of Thrones Season 5.
Instead, it’s widely assumed that Melisandre, who showed up at Castle Black at the very end of Season 5, will have something to do with Jon Snow’s resurrection. While Cunningham’s vague statement about how the first episode “kicks off” isn’t absolute confirmation, it certainly fits.
It looks like we’ll be getting Jon Snow back immediately at the beginning of Game of Thrones Season 6, and Snow will have Melisandre to thank for his return. Knowing Melisandre, she probably has big plans in mind for the resurrected Stark bastard.
