Oh, Attack on Titan season 2: A long time we have waited for you. And now we’re going to wait for a while longer! That’s because, as reported by Moviepilot, Attack on Titan season 2 has now been delayed to give the manga a chance to get farther ahead. I thought we were past this, but there it is. The show adheres closely to the manga, so we’re going to have to wait even longer. Again. At least we got a trailer.
Attack On Titan Season 2 Release Date Delayed Again
A full two years ago, it became clear that Attack on Titan season 2 wasn’t going to be coming out anytime soon. That was right when the show first started getting really popular in the United States—spoiler alert, it popped up on Netflix. It was a disappointment way back then that the show’s return was so far off. It’s even more of a disappointment now.
Moviepilot ferreted out the news about the Attack on Titan season 2 delay, and although it doesn’t cite any sources, we have pretty good evidence that their report is true. That’s because the official Facebook page for Attack on Titan reposted the report, headlined “Some unfortunate news for season 2.” So that means we have to face it: The Attack on Titan season 2 release date really has been delayed. As the site reports, the anime team wants the manga to be four story arcs ahead of the show. Right now, it’s only two. So we’re going to be waiting a while, but at least we have a vague idea of the timeline.
The Attack on Titan season 2 release date was and has always been a little nebulous, in part because the anime team was waiting for the manga to get ahead, in part because they were working on other projects. The second season wasn’t even in production, as far as we know, as of October 2014. But once the manga ends, then the show can move forward with its second and maybe even final season. When will that be? Certainly not in 2016. The manga was originally expected to end in 2017, and we haven’t heard much otherwise since then… so the future isn’t all that far off.
But for now, the wait for Attack on Titan season 2 continues… two more story arcs, and then we’re good to go. But it’s worth it. The show won’t finish before the manga. That’s what happened to Game of Thrones, to all of our regret. At least we can play the Attack on Titan games.
