The announcement of a Pokémon-centric Nintendo Direct on Feb. 26 hyped up fans of the franchise for a brand new main 3DS game, whether that be Pokémon Z or Rainbow, the recent thrown around codename.
However, a day before the Pokémon Nintendo Direct some interesting leaks have popped up and they suggest the next main Pokémon games coming in 2016 are Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
UPDATE: Pokemon Sun and Moon have been officially announced during the latest Nintendo Direct.
The trademark and even logos for Pokémon Sun and Moon appeared in an EU trademark website -- via eurogamer -- and can be seen below.
But as Serebii points out, the Pokémon Company has trademarked games in the past that never materialized. Pokémon Brown and Pokémon Amethyst were two trademarked titles that never came to be and Sun and Moon could very well be the same thing.
And since the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon trademarks are unconfirmed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, this story is still ongoing.
The Pokémon Nintendo Direct will be streamed on the Nintendo website Feb. 26 at 10am EST and that’s when all of the speculation and reports will be put to rest.
But if Pokémon Sun and Moon are true, it would be mean that the games are jumping into its Generation 7 games instead of the third of Gen 6, which Pokémon Z was presumably supposed to be.
And the recent reveal of Magearna confirms that there are still new Pokémon to be discovered and heavily hints at Gen 7. But where does that leave the new Zygarde forms? Fans presumed that Pokémon Z would be the next stop in the Pokémon journey as players would get more background on the legendary ground/dragon Pokémon.
