Geralt of Rivia's story is about to come to a close. As mentioned by developer CD Projekt RED, The Witcher 3's next DLC pack, called Blood and Wine will be Geralt's last story to tell. Don't worry though, because this DLC is going to be a big one.
This news comes by way of an interview CD Projekt RED gave with Eurogamer.it. Everything has been translated from Italian using Google Translate, so some errors may be included.
Jakub Szamalek, the Senior Story Writer of The Witcher 3, confirmed that this DLC will end Geralt's story and also drive CD Projekt RED to working on their next project. "With Blood and Wine will try to close, at least for a while time, with the universe of The Witcher," said Szamalek. "It will be the last adventure of Geralt as a main character. But beyond that there is still nothing written in stone. Blood and Wine will be our conclusion of the story of Geralt, then it's time to focus with all the energy of Cyberpunk 2077."
As for what the plot of Blood and Wine will be like, Szamalek mentions that it will not be related to the story of the main The Witcher 3 campaign at all. "Blood and Wine is an independent history, not tied in particularly closely with the main plot of the Wild Hunt," Szamalek mentioned. "With our experience and feedback received since the game is on sale, we believe we have achieved something even better than the main game."
One of the ways Szamalek thinks Blood and Wine will be better than Wild Hunt is because of a new antagonist for Geralt to fight. "We believe that they failed in Wild Hunt to create a charismatic enemy with which to beat us, and then we worked to make unique and memorable opponent of this expansion," Szamalek said. "We also created a rather complex story that we believe players will appreciate. We are quite satisfied with the work, but we know that we can do even better."
With a new, complex story, a more compelling main antagonist, and the urge to end on the biggest high-note possible, CD Projekt RED is setting their sights high. Seeing all of the other games and expansions released by the company in the past, they will probably hit their goal.
As of right now, there's no release date for Blood and Wine outside of a vague 2016 release date. We do know the expansion will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC though.
