'Persona 5' Gameplay News: All-Out Attack, 1 More Are Back & More Combat Details

While Persona fans await the latest news from E3 on the newest entry in the beloved JRPG series, the Japanese publication Weekly Famitsu has revealed more information about the combat system in Persona 5.

Atlus announced the return of the All-Out Attack in previous footage of Persona 5. All-Out Attacks have been a staple feature of combat in the series, allowing the entire team to strike at once with an extra powerful, synchronized attack after an enemy has been knocked down. The latest Weekly Famitsu suggests the 1 More mechanic will also return to the game.

1 More allows an extra attack after landing a critical hit or exploiting a weakness. These extra attacks can stack over one or more enemies, creating an opportunity for a potentially devastating All-Out Attack. We still don’t know which kinds of magic elements and melee weapons will appear in Persona 5, but if enemies can score repeated 1 More hits on your party, careful battle strategy and party / persona choice will be critical to success in the game.

Weekly Famitsu (translations via Persona Central) also reveals P5 will introduce a negotiation system with enemies, allowing the party to request money, items or “power” from enemies. Could this replace Shuffle Time as the way the protagonist acquires new personas in Persona 5? It’s a strong possibility, given that demon negotiation features in both Persona 2 and the Shin Megami Tensei series (also developed by Atlus and a close cousin to the Persona series). For instance, in Shin Megami Tensei IV, negotiation allows a demon to become your ally, provided you have room in your inventory and are of sufficient level. If you aren’t yet strong enough, the demon may summon a lower-level creature instead, or even start the battle over again.
