The New Nintendo 3DS is a pretty cool piece of hardware. It’s a pretty cool piece of hardware that has exactly one exclusive game, though, and that’s a pretty big disincentive for buying the thing, at least if you have a Nintendo 3DS of some sort already. But E3 2015 is coming up—could that story entirely change?
Will Nintendo Announce New Nintendo 3DS Exclusive Titles At E3 2015?
The New Nintendo 3DS could really use some exclusive titles. Right now, all it has is Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, which demands enough processing and graphical power that only the New Nintendo 3DS can handle it. After all, it was a Wii game, and no slouch back then either. But that’s the only available, and only announced, New Nintendo 3DS exclusive.
No other New Nintendo 3DS games are on the horizon, officially speaking. Nintendo has generally positioned the New Nintendo 3DS as a hardware upgrade along the lines of the Nintendo 3DS XL or the DSi back in the day—a pretty substantial improvement, but not a new system in its own right. But there are also hints of the Game Boy Color in the New Nintendo 3DS. It’s much more powerful under the hood than the Nintendo 3DS, and it has several new features—like Amiibo support—built right in. And the 3D is much improved. It’s a worthwhile system coming out relatively late in the handheld’s lifecycle.
New Nintendo 3DS sales have been reasonably robust, but still, Nintendo should announce some exclusives at E3 2015 to incentivize those of us who already have a 3DS to pick the thing up. I won’t, unless there are good exclusives. My 3DS XL works fine. But if the new Fire Emblem or the new Pokémon really get jacked up on the New 3DS, or even are exclusive to it (which they won’t be), that’s another story altogether.
Come on, Nintendo. Give us a reason to buy the New Nintendo 3DS. Or at least a better reason.
