The NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition has two superstars on its cover, and these are Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird. The NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition is exclusively available at GameStop in the US and Canada. This is also the second cover in the NBA 2K franchise to celebrate the athletes of the WNBA.
In addition to gracing the cover of the NBA 2K23 WNBA Edition, the jerseys of Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are available as in-game bonus content.
Sue Bird is part of Seattle Storm and a four-time WNBA Champion, thirteen-time WNBA All-Star, WNBA all-time assists leader, and five-time Olympic gold medalist. Diana Taurasi is with Phoenix Mercury and a two-time Kia WNBA Finals MVP, three-time WNBA Champion, WNBA all-time leading scorer, and five-time Olympic gold medalist.
In a statement, Taurasi shared that it was great to see hard work being memorialized on the cover of NBA 2K23. She added that a lot of kids dream of the chance to have a professional basketball career, and with this, they can also dream of being on the cover of a game.
Meanwhile, Alfie Brody, Vice President of Global Marketing Strategy at 2K, revealed that the response to the first WNBA edition was overwhelmingly positive. He went on to say that these two superstars have achieved greatness both individually and together.
These two superstars have long been committed to securing equal opportunities for women athletes. As a result, NBA 2K has partnered with WNBA stars to donate $100,000 to Every Kid Sports. This is a non-profit giving young people the opportunity to be part of youth basketball programs around the country. This donation hopes to increase access to youth basketball by covering the registration fees for more than 550 girls from income-restricted families.
According to Bird, by partnering with both NBA 2K and Every Kid Sports, she and Diana now have the opportunity to open the doors for hundreds of girls in the country who want to play basketball. She added that while she’s honored to be on the cover, she’s even more honored to use her legacy to allow these opportunities.
Every Kid Sports Executive Director and Co-Founder Natalie Hummel said that partnering with athletes and 2K is an exciting opportunity for them. The organization is humbled by the support and commitment given.
NBA 2K23 is coming to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
