Suicide Squad is one sick, twisted, action packed comedy with a hint of love story. But there’s one character that's the sickest of them all: The Joker.
DC Comics’ most iconic villain has one mission: find Harley Quinn.
Jared Leto, who reportedly arrived up on set each day already dressed as The Clown Prince of Crime, will portray Batman’s notoriously crazy, psychotic archenemy.
According to Entertainment Weekly , he’s got a “laser-like plan” to get back with his “true love.” But there’s gotta be more to this story. Since when does a psychopath love anyone more than himself?
Though Joker and Harley Quinn are one of the most well known villainous couples ever, The Joker we’ll see in Suicide Squad must have a personal agenda of his own and he’s most likely after something more than just Harley Quinn’s heart. He never really loved her anyway. His unknown, but certifiably insane plan is going give the Suicide Squad a run for their money when he escapes from Belle Reve Penitentiary.
Harley Quinn was The Joker’s former psychologist at Arkham Asylum. The two developed quite an abusive relationship and quickly became supervillain accomplices. It’ll be interesting to find out whether Harley welcomes his presense, or if she’s done with him once and for all.
Actress Margot Robbie elaborated on their relationship during an interview with Vanity Fair.
“She loves causing mayhem and destruction,” Robbie explained. “She’s incredibly devoted to the Joker. They have a dysfunctional relationship, but she loves him anyway.”
In the trailers, there's a scene that could be a flashback whereThe Joker and Harley are together and Batman's after them. The two get into a tussle in what we can expect to be an epic car chase scene with Ben Affleck’s Bat climbing on top of The Joker’s car. When it crashes into a body of water, Batman brings Harley to safety. Heroic Hollywood reports there’s actually not very much interaction between The Joker and Batman, but what does Bruce Wayne want with Harley? If this scene is indeed a flashback, we'll get a glimpse into both Deadshot and Harley's past with The Bat.
