Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best games for the Nintendo Switch, or any other console in 2017. However, Nintendo has yet to announce any paid DLC for the title.
Other Nintendo Switch games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Warriors and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild already have paid DLC available, but one of the best Mario games ever does not. Despite the lack of updates since launch, Super Mario Odyssey ’ s producer is open to more content for the game. In an interview with Game Informer -- via Nintendo Everything -- Yoshiaki Koizumi talked about the content present in Super Mario Odyssey and left the door open for possible paid DLC in the future.
“There’s a lot of volume [in Super Mario Odyssey]. That was a big focus in development. Give the player tons to do,” Koizumi said. “We pushed ourselves to create as much as we could. I can’t announce anything specifically today, but of course, if there was a really cool idea for us to do, then we would certainly be thinking about DLC.”
While Nintendo has no current plans regarding paid DLC for Super Mario Odyssey, a free update coming in February will add a new mini-game called Balloon World, which will allow players (who finished the main story) to hide a certain number of balloons in “Hide It” mode. In “Find It” mode, players will have the same amount of time to locate balloons hidden by others. There will be a ranking system for both finding and hiding balloons. The free update, which doesn’t have a specific release date, will also include the new Snapshot Mode filters and new outfits.
Paid DLC for Super Mario Odyssey could take the form of new worlds, bosses and a ton more Power Moons to collect. Included in a new world could be more mini games and other easter eggs that fans of the game would love.
Super Mario Odyssey is available now for Nintendo Switch.
