Nintendo promised Super Mario Odyssey would get a spotlight during its E3 2017 presentation and the company not only released a brand new gameplay trailer, but revealed its release date as well.
The brand new Super Mario Odyssey trailer showed off more of the story (what little of it is there) as we meet Cappy, the Top Hat ghost...thing that will take over Mario’s iconic cap and will be your main weapon throughout the adventure.
It seems that Princess Peach is, again, captured by Bowser on his airship. This time, it looks like they are both wearing wedding garb. Check out the latest Super Mario Odyssey trailer from E3 2017 below.
After the Nintendo E3 2017 presentation, the Nintendo Treehouse Live event sat down with the Super Mario Odyssey developers to explore some more levels and get more details on what this 3D Mario game will play like.
Some details from the Treehouse event include the ability to take over certain enemies like Bullet Bills. However, not every type of enemy can be taken over so you’ll have to learn along the way who you can and cannot possess. And in the case of the Bullet Bills, you only have a certain amount of time possessing them before they explode.
New Donk City, the metropolitan world that was shown in previous trailers, is actually based on Donkey Kong and the streets are named after aspects and characters from that franchise. It was teased that it may mean something for the overall story.
Another big change to the Mario franchise is the implementation of the coins as currency. You can collect two different types of coins, the first being the traditional gold coins that are used to revive Mario when he dies while the purple coins are used to purchase clothing items and souvenirs. Each world has a different shaped purple coin.
There will also be three new amiibo for Super Mario Odyssey that are based on the wedding outfits of Mario, Peach and Bowser. Take a look below.
Super Mario Odyssey will release for Nintendo Switch on Oct. 27.
