Good morning, Night City! Welcome Refused to Cyberpunk 2077 as Swedish punk band bring Samurai’s iconic music to life. Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, where players take on the role of V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality.
Refused, also known as The Refused, is a Swedish punk rock band composed of vocalist Dennis Lyxzén, guitarist Kristofer Steen, drummer David Sandström, and bassist Magnus Flagge. Samurai is the legendary chrome rock band in Cyberpunk 2077, composed of Johnny Silverhand as the lead vocalist, Kerry Eurodyne on vocals and lead/rhythm guitar, Denny on drums, Nancy/Bes Isis on keyboards, and Henry on bass.
As part of the collaboration with the band, Refused has written, recorded, and produced an EP featuring the greatest hits of the in-game band Samurai, with creative input from the game’s composer team. The partnership has produced original tracks created by the band exclusively for Cyberpunk 2077, as well as other tracks inspired by the original source material.
CD Projekt Red’s Music Director Marcin Przybyłowicz shared in a press statement that he is excited to have Refused on board for Cyberpunk 2077. He added that he knows "for a fact there are a lot of fans of the band at the studio, including Piotr Adamczyk, one of the composers working on the game, who came to me with the idea for this collaboration. I’m very happy he did, because the massive riffs, powerful drums, and hard-hitting vocals the guys from Refused deliver as SAMURAI have blown me away. I can wholeheartedly say the punk factor of Cyberpunk 2077’s music is through the roof!”
With the same vibe, Refused’s lead vocalist Dennis Lyxzén shared, “Like us, SAMURAI is a group of rebels, albeit in a different time and place. Working together with CD Projekt Red, writing music and song lyrics for Cyberpunk’s chrome rock icon was fun, but also very different in the creative sense. It was an unexpected challenge that turned out to be right up our alley and really got us going. The songs turned out great and the game looks insane.”
For a preview of the amazing work Refused has done for Cyberpunk 2077, the first track for the collaboration was published on YouTube last Tuesday, July 2. The iconic track is now available across select digital stores and streaming services.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for pre-order and is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on April 16, 2020.
