Publisher Focus Home Interactive and developer Lightbulb Crew have just announced their tactical role-playing game titled Othercide. Set to launch on July 28, the game will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
Set in a dark and gothic inspired world, Othercide tells the story of Humanity’s last hope. The Daughters, which are “echoes of the greatest warrior to ever live,” are the only things standing before suffering and death. Players will take control of an army of Daughters, and will battle it out for the fate of the world. Each small misstep and large victory will dictate The Daughters, shape their unique abilities, and even their personality. At times, tough decisions must be made which may involve sacrificing one for the other. Those who survive to see the next battle will only grow stronger.
Based on the trailer, the game’s combat system looks mostly like your typical role-playing game: Take turns making moves, either choose to move locations, start an attack, or remain on the defensive. Certain characters (or Daughters) will have special skills or move sets which may allow them higher attack or defense stats, longer attack ranges, and more. The game’s spin on the turn-based RPG genre is in its Dynamic Timeline System which will allow for barrages of abilities from the players’ Daughters to be set up in advance. Aesthetics-wise, Othercide employs a black and white background with streaks of red littering the screen. It's a very interesting design choice, and we are excited to see as to how it will play out once we’re in the game. The enemy design is different, too, with almost eldritch like horrors filling the landscape.
Othercide will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on July 28. Pre-orders are now also available for Xbox One via the Microsoft Store and PC via Steam. Pre-ordering will provide users with a 15 percent off discount price. A bundle for the game is also available which includes an artbook and the Othercide soundtrack. Othercide is just one of the recent games from publisher Focus Home Interactive. Others are Hardspace: Shipbreaker, which is currently in Early Access on Steam, and Snowrunner, which released in April of this year for the Epic Games Store.
