This week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl is an oldie, but still a classic: “Clash Of The Minions.” Players build a constructed deck where every minion has Charge or Taunt. It’s as straightforward as that: there’s no little Ragnaros running around the board making things complicated, like last week. You can take any deck you want into the tavern, but there are some cards that are just not worth it.
Here are a few tips for playing “Clash Of The Minions” that will guarantee a card pack. Remember not to open that pack until Knights Of The Frozen Throne releases in August so you don’t get any duplicate Legendaries ruining your day.
RIP Taunt And Charge Minions- This Brawl only has one rule, so there’s no point in playing cards that already have Charge and Taunt. I love Sludge Belcher with a passion that I only reserve for imaginary abominations, but he’s got to sit this one out. There are so many better cards that can take his slot, like Mechanical Yeti , which can take advantage of being able to attack on the turn they are summoned. Stubborn Gastropod with Charge is the exception, that card is dirty when it can attack on the turn it was summoned.
Bird Is The Word- My personal favorite card to use is Vicious Fledgeling , which should be included in every deck, no matter what. The purple flappy bird is to powerful with Charge, that’s why I’m so excited to try the new Hunter Death Knight and combine it with Stonetusk Boar. All minions pale in comparison to this Beast when it’s allowed to snowball out of control, which is exactly what this Brawl allows it to do. Stealth and Divine Shield are never a bad idea to Adapt, just make sure you can actually break through your opponent’s minions to get that buff.
Only Playing Counts- A minion summoned from a spell doesn’t get any of the buffs, you have to play it from your hand for it to count. Cards like Muster For Battle turning into Unleash the Hounds would be super broken, so I’m glad Blizzard set up this distinct limitation. Cards summoned from effects will also not get the buffs, sorry Dragon Egg or Grim Patron.
Go Wild!- like most constructed Tavern Brawls, “Clash Of The Minions” uses Wild deck rules. All of those cards you forgot existed, like Zombie Chow, are back.
Divine Shield Is Your Friend- Charge + Divine Shield = a dead enemy minion.
Here’s the deck I used to get my pack, feel free to tweak it or play something else entirely. It’s Secret Paladin, the strongest deck that has ever existed in the history of Hearthstone . You play this to win your free pack and get out, not to enjoy the rules of the Brawl or deck build. It’s a fun Brawl, don’t go to crazy with the BM decks.
