This year's Toy Fair in New York City featured tons of appearances from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The four heroes in a half-shell have seen quite the increase in popularity, with a big thanks to their hit Nickelodeon TV series and summer blockbuster movie series. If you are a fan of the Ninja Turtles, or if you like Mega Bloks, get excited about the new line of toys coming out this fall.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mega Bloks sets are broken up into four categories: There's the line of sets for young kids featuring big blocks and larger characters, there's the line of sets based on the TV series, there's the line of sets based on the upcoming movie, and there are a line of sets for the older fan or collector.
First up is the toys for the younger crowd. These sets all featured simple settings, large bricks to build with, and simple character designs. A neat feature about the younger line of toys is the turtles can all roll up into a ball. Once in this form, the sets feature a "launcher" that will fling the rolled up character around the room.
The sets featuring the Nick TV Ninja Turtles are more elaborate. These feature regular Mega Bloks bricks, and feature many scenes found in the series. Additionally, there will be a Mega Blok name wall that fans can use to spell out their name, or the name of their favorite turtle. Sets will include the Turtle van, a pizza shop, a set in the sewers, and more.
The collector's sets all were the highest quality sets, and the most visually appealing. One set featured the original Turtle Van, complete with the classic color scheme. Figures for this set included all four of the Turtles, as well as April O'Neil and Shredder. Another high-quality set was done almost entirely in black and white, made to look like the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book line.
Lastly, there was a collection of Mega Bloks sets featuring scenes from the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to photograph these sets, but be assured that they also looked great. These movie-based sets all feature the redesigned Ninja Turtles look for the characters, and Bebop and Rocksteady both make several appearances.
