The Tekken 7 roster still has some room to grow, Bandai Namco confirmed this week, and the next fighter to join the King of Iron Fist tournament is sure to be the most controversial addition yet. I’m not going to pretend I’m a fan of the decision to bring Eddy Gordo back, and social media support for my early protest suggests I’m not alone. But here’s what we know about the return of the series’ most annoying character before Tekken 7 hits PC and consoles this summer.
According to Bandai Namco, Eddy Gordo will return to the King of Iron Fist tournament looking to avenge the murder of his capoeira master. The publisher hasn’t said who is responsible for the murder; however, it seems likely they’re saving that information for Tekken 7 ’s story mode. The character reveal reveal trailer does confirm Gordo is still willing (and able) to spam kicks until his foes lose consciousness. Thankfully, some effective counters for those capoeira combos have emerged over the last decade. But such strategies won’t make Gordo any less frustrating for new Tekken players (or those severely out of practice) when Tekken 7 debuts in June.
For an early look at Bandai Namco’s latest take on Eddy Gordo, take a few minutes to watch the latest Tekken 7 trailer from the company. Then head down to the comments section and let us know what you think of the decision to put Eddy on the Tekken 7 roster.
Tekken 7 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game debuts June 2.
