Two years after Re-Logic announced Terraria: Otherworld, a space-based spin-off of the ultra-popular sandbox game, the studio says its rarely-discussed project is changing developers. And the new team will need more time than Re-Logic expected when Terraria: Otherworld was first announced in 2015.
The news comes via an announcement on the Terraria forums, published by an administrator and attributed to the entire studio, meant to update fans on development of Terraria: Otherworld after months of silence. Re-Logic still doesn’t have much to say about Otherworld , since the game is apparently significantly behind schedule, but there is a bit of silver lining on the storm clouds.
“Our team had a clear vision for this game – one that we shared with all of you with much shared excitement – and, as much as we hate to say it (and in spite of all of the reforms we tried last year) - the current state of the game is still equal parts far from that vision and well behind schedule,” Re-Logic said.
“The great news is that we already have a dedicated and passionate team ready to pick up the torch and continue the Otherworld journey,” the studio added. “Based upon their really impressive work to-date with the Terraria re-write on Console/Mobile, coupled with an amazingly on-point proposal for completing Otherworld (after a thorough review of the game on their end), we have made the decision to bring Pipeworks on board as our new development partner for Terraria: Otherworld!”
The studio isn’t committing to a new timeline for Terraria: Otherworld at the moment. Instead, Re-Logic says it will sit down with representatives from Pipeworks to discuss each team’s vision for Otherworld and figure out when the two companies will be ready to say more about the project. Re-Logic says the “quiet period” will continue for now. But fans can expect that radio silence to end soon.
