Everyone's favorite nightmarish figure is preparing to scare Nintendo Switch players as Slender: The Arrival officially launches June 20. This is the first time the spooky figure has been made available for this platform, so be sure not to scream too loud to avoid scaring other people.
As the only official Slender Man game, this puts you in the middle of the mystery that surrounds this haunting internet personality that captivated and terrorized millions. Described as unnaturally tall and thin, eyewitnesses also said that the Slender Man is dressed in a black suit, and has a featureless, blank face.
The game follows Lauren as she searches for her friend Kate, who had increasingly become obsessed with the story of the Slender Man. Players need to determine if the disappearance of Kate is due to the Slender Man. Using Kate's forgotten flashlight, players have to explore dark forests, creepy mines, and abandoned houses to solve the mystery. All while taking care not to be caught by the Slender Man himself.
Slender Man had its beginnings as a creepypasta Internet meme created by Eric Knudson in the Something Awful forums. Even in its original incarnation, Slender Man is an unnaturally tall and thin man with a featureless head and face, wearing a black suit. Influenced by the writing of H.P. Lovecraft, stories surrounding this character typically involve him stalking, abducting, or even traumatizing people, particularly children. A movie based on this character was released last year. While the film was negatively panned by critics, it reported a gross of $50 million against a budget of around $30 million.
Slender: The Arrival was developed by independent Toronto-based Blue Isle Studios in partnership with original creator Knudson. The studio is known for such games like Citadel: Forged with Fire and Valley. Slender: The Arrival is priced at $9.99, and comes with a "T" for Teen (Blood, Violence) rating.
