A new animated film is set to answer some of the burning questions that Tomb Raiders fans may have between Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. Titled Tomb Raider: The Myth of El Hawa, it's premiering on October 15 in Derby. Die-hard fans know that this is the city where the franchise had its start. For those who can't make it to the screening, there's a YouTube Live Premiere scheduled on October 21.
What exactly happened and why the need for an animated film? In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, the final scenes had Lara Croft trapped under the ruins of a temple with her fate uncertain. While the fifth installment didn't add much to the storyline, the sixth edition titled Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness had a really good story. The problem was, as a result of time pressure, a lot of information and scenes were cut, including what happened to Lara while she was trapped under the ruins and how the heroine escaped.
Meet the Team
The story for Tomb Raider: The Myth of El Hawa was written by Murti Schofield (TRAOD). Hopefully, this should give fans a proper and canon explanation of what happened between the two games. Serving as the narrator for the video is Jonell Elliott, the voice actress of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, Tomb Raider: Chronicles, and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness.
The animation was directed by none other than veteran Tomb Raider fan Ash Kaprielov, named by various leading video game magazines as "Lara's biggest fan." As a communications professional, Kaprielov has been involved in other Tomb Raider-related projects like Replay Events’ Tomb Raider 20th Anniversary Core Design QA at Play Expo Manchester 2016 and Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel Symphony, an orchestral music album.
The team responsible for bringing this animated film to life also had Tina Ljubenkov as Assistant Director with artwork created by Jasmine Steiner. Meanwhile, music and mastering were completed by Dean Kopri.
In a statement, Ash Kaprielov revealed that this upcoming animated film is all thanks to the hard work and dedication from some of the community’s biggest Tomb Raider fans, as well as those responsible for some of the most popular installments of the series.
