Recently, Insomniac made several announcements regarding Spider-Man: Remastered, including a deliberate change to Peter Parker's character model. Of course, fans clearly are not impressed with how Spider-Man: Remastered's new look has turned out. It's not just because of Peter Parker's face change, but also that the game doesn't support cross-save and there's no way to purchase the remastered version separately. Nevertheless, some fans have been so disappointed with Insomniac's decision to changing Peter Parker's face that they have gone as far as sending threats to the developer.
The news came to light when Insomniac's Creative Director Bryan Intihar took to Twitter to share his appreciation for fan concerns over their favorite characters. Intihar also shared an example of how far some fans have gone to demand the reversal.
Soon after Intihar shared the post, other developers, including God of War's Creative Director Cory Barlog and The Last of Us' Creative Director Neil Druckmann got involved in the discussion, supporting Intihar and asking fans not to behave in such an unkind manner.
From a fan's perspective, the attachment to video game characters can be quite strong, and seeing an unannounced change can result in an immature negative response. A teenage version of me could have responded similarly, but I don't think I would have gone so far as to send a personal threat to the developer.
Nevertheless, speaking of Spider-Man: Remastered, no amount of threats are going to get the reversal of Peter Parker's face at this point. However, if Insomniac would have informed fans that there was going to be a change in Peter Parker's face in Spider-Man: Remastered, the negative reactions might not have gone so far.
Spider-Man: Remastered will be available along with the Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The game is scheduled as a PS5 launch title and will release on November 12 along with the new console.
