Unravel, the charming yarn-based puzzle-platformer that made a splash at E3 2013, has been approved for a sequel. This news comes via a post on the EA news blog by Patrick Söderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Studios .
“Earlier this year, we released Unravel, a one-of-a-kind, physics-based puzzle platformer that captured the hearts of players around the world. The awesomely creative development team at Coldwood Interactive brought tiny, endearing Yarny to life. And since then, it’s been quite incredible to see the community’s love for Yarny, both in the game and beyond,” the blog post states.
“At EA, we love working with creative and passionate development teams, in our own studios and our partners. Which is why I’m very pleased to announce that we’ve signed a new agreement with Coldwood to work with them on their next project.”
An EA representative confirmed with PC Gamer that “this will be for the next Unravel.” The blog post did not offer a release date window, but according to Söderlund, EA will reveal more “when the time is right.”
In our review of Unravel, we called it “the special kind of game that makes you think. Not just about how to beat the challenges it presents, but… about your life and how you live it… using a simple character to communicate deep themes and storytelling.” We also praised the game’s “countless beautiful moments” and Yarny’s charming expressiveness.
