The Walking Dead Season 6 finale was basically a giant game of cat and mouse. Negan and his Saviors blocked every path to Hilltop and Maggie’s running out of time. She’s either really sick or on the verge of miscarrying her unborn child. It was appropriately intense all the way up to Negan’s introduction. And then The Walking Dead pulled some dumb shit.

Negan plays “Eeny Meeny Miney Mo” to pick his victim, it cuts to first-person view and we see a character’s last moments through their eyes. We have no idea who died. Even The Walking Dead cast doesn't know who dies, according to a tweet from Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl on the series. The infuriating part is that it feels like a cop out from the writers. We understand wanting Negan’s The Walking Dead Season 6 finale to be special and not distract from it, but come on! This was the perfect opportunity to kill a beloved character and light the Internet on fire. Instead, you’re left feeling dissatisfied.

On The Talking Dead shortly after, showrunner Scott Gimple explained revealing the character that died will be the start of a new story on The Walking Dead Season 7. Gimple said it's not a stunt and they plan on delivering a great story next season that justifies the ending. We'll keep an open mind about it. Let’s hope the show actually killed Glenn, Maggie or Daryl; anyone else just wouldn’t be worth a 6-month cliffhanger, if AMC can keep that detail from leaking before then that is.

The next 6-7 months of our lives will be spent watching the last 15 minutes of this episode to figure out who dies. Alright, Internet! Time to study some tree positions and background voices. Watch The Walking Dead Season 6 finale on AMC here .
