The Walking Dead Season 6 episode 14 said goodbye to a new character to the series, but her death scene was completely different in the comic books.

[Warning: major The Walking Dead Season 6 spoilers ahead]

Dr. Denise was the latest casualty of The Walking Dead . She was killed during a simple run with Daryl and Rosita. Dwight, the man who Daryl saved earlier this season, shot Denise in the head with a crossbow. It was an unfortunate way to die, as Dwight admitted his arrow was intended for Daryl. Alexandria is now more vulnerable since Denise was their only doctor.

Denise’s death isn’t a surprise to comic readers, though the cause of her death seems a bit random. In the comics, the good doc gets bitten, and Michonne puts her down before reanimation. Instead, the person who gets shot with a crossbow is Abraham.

The setup in the show was similar; Eugene and Abraham leave Alexandria to scout a potential bullet factory. Eugene’s big plan is to make bullets Alexandria can use as currency to barter with Hilltop. On their way back, Abraham starts opening up to Eugene when Dwight shoots him in the head mid-sentence. Abraham’s death was a big deal to comic book fans, as it happens shortly after Glenn’s meeting with Lucille.

The timeline in The Walking Dead is a bit different than the comics, which gives the showrunners freedom to play around with character deaths. If anything, Denise’s death shows that the big Negan scene might not go down the way everyone thinks it will. We’re looking at you, Daryl and Carol.
