The Walking Dead Season 6 might introduce Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan much sooner than you’d think. Showrunner Scott Gimple told TheWrap there might be some misdirection going on with the villain’s introduction.
The assumption is that fans won’t see Negan until the Season 6 finale. However, this might not be the case after all.
“There have been articles pinpointing exactly when Negan shows up, and that’s a bit disappointing, because they may not be entirely true,” Gimple told TheWrap . “There’s kind of a build up. But you might even see him next episode. Absolutely. Well, sort of. Well, definitely. Well, maybe. Maybe not. But possibly.”
It’s possible we’ll get a Glimpse of Negan by the end of episode 12 of Season 6. In the last episode , Rick’s group agreed to eliminate Negan in exchange for establishing a trade with the Hilltop community. Hilltop has the food and medicine Alexandria needs, but Rick’s crew has the fighters and weapons. Hilltop and Alexandria can coexist peacefully, in theory, but things aren’t as simple as they seem to be.
[Warning: mild The Walking Dead spoilers ahead]
Rick initially underestimates Negan in the comic books. He doesn’t find out how much manpower Negan has until well into the “war” between communities. Rick leads an attack on Negan’s men and demands they bring him their leader, only to find out in a brutal way that Negan is unlike anyone they’ve encountered before.
Introducing Negan before the end of Season 6 will take away from the big, brutal moment from the comics coming up on the show Negan is an unknown threat; keeping him in the shadows will just add to the suspense.
