It didn’t take long for the internet to “figure out” who Negan killed in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale. The bullsh*t cliffhanger aside, it wasn’t hard for fans to piece together what happened. By now, you’ve probably seen post about the “Maggie” audio claiming the person who dies is Glenn. Don’t believe that just yet.

The popular theory is Glenn is the POV character in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale. Technically, he was the last person to get out of the van and the only person to openly protest Negan. Glenn’s first reaction to seeing a sick Maggie was to protect her, which Negan didn’t like. Negan gave Glenn a “pass” for being emotional, but warned additional outbursts would not be tolerated.

After Negan’s infamous game of “Eeny Meeny Miny Mo,” the camera switches to first-person view again. People believe it was Glenn looking through the holes in the van in the beginning of the episode, and thus assumed he must be the POV character in the end. People then started sharing posts on social media with slowed down audio from Negan’s murder. Listen to it below:

It all seems a bit too obvious at this point. If the show was going to honor Glenn’s comic book death, why chose to send The Walking Dead Season 6 on a dumb cliffhanger? Comic book fans were expecting Glenn’s death, so leaving it a mystery at the end doesn’t make sense. Opening The Walking Dead Season 7 with his demise wouldn’t be shocking or satisfying; we all knew that was coming.

What does make sense is The Walking Dead showrunners wanting to wait to kill off Daryl, who’s become one of those characters that you can’t kill because fans tune in for him. Fans wouldn’t want to wait to see Carol’s reaction to Daryl’s death or Rick dealing with the lost of his right-hand man. They also shot Daryl in the episode before the season finale, so why not go all the way and kill him? There’s not much left for Daryl to do story-wise. Rick has a bigger support system, so he doesn’t rely on Daryl as much.

Honestly, we hope The Walking Dead showrunners didn’t waste a cliffhanger to reveal Glenn’s death, especially after the stunt they pulled with the dumpster in season 6. We’ll be watching The Walking Dead Season 7, albeit begrudgingly and angrily. Watch the infamous Negan death scene in the video below and leave us your death theories in the comments section below.
