The Walking Dead Season 7 will show fans there’s more than one way to survive the zombie apocalypse. Fans are used to seeing Rick persevere, despite all the loss he’s experienced. That won’t be the case this time around, and he’ll have to get creative if he wants to take down Negan.
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman recently told Entertainment Weekly even though Negan is very much a villain, not all the communities dislike him. This is not good news for Rick, as he’s never had to deal with a threat quite like Negan. The most organized group Rick has encountered thus far was back in Atlanta with The Governor, but he doesn’t even come close to Negan, who was able to keep the size of his “army” a secret from other communities.
“What we’re finding is there’s a lot of civilization out there,” Kirkman told EW . “There are smaller groups here and there that actually have been thriving and it gets to be a little exciting because we’re going to be seeing how they’ve been surviving, and a lot of them have been getting by in a much different way than Rick and his group. So we’re meeting these people that have lived in this apocalyptic situation for as long as Rick Grimes and his crew, who we’ve been following since day one, but we haven’t seen their evolution and their progression. And so some of them grow to be like Negan’s group, some of them grow to be like Ezekiel’s group, some of them grow to be like Gregory’s group at the Hilltop, and the differences between these groups, and their ways of life, is going to be a lot of fun to explore this season.”
Jedi Morgan warned Rick about taking out Negan without trying to appeal to him first. Morgan tried to explain to Rick they need people to survive and they should be trying to save lives, not take them. But no, Rick had to go and brutally murder Negan’s people in their sleep. It was not one of Rick’s finer moments, and shows just how much of his humanity he’s lost over the past few years. Honestly, it would be hard for other communities to trust Rick after he failed miserably at taking out Negan.
Even if he doesn’t realize it, Rick has laid the groundwork for a brutal war. Things will get much worse for Rick before they’ll get better. The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres Oct. 23 on AMC. Which communities do you think will side with Negan? Let us know in the comments below.
