There’ve been rumblings about a possible encounter with another infamous The Walking Dead community shortly after the Season 7 trailer was released. A still from the trailer showing what many believed to be The Whisperers has made the rounds online, but it’s unlikely we’ll see the group any time soon. Check out the still below.

Yes, the walkers do look a bit different than the usual decayed bodies, but creator Robert Kirkman already shot down The Whisperer rumors back in July. It’s just too early in the story to reveal the group’s existence.

In The Walking Dead comics, The Whisperers are a cult that live amongst the dead. They wear the skins of walkers to blend into herds and live by a strict set of rules. They have a pack mentality and do not like outsiders. Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers, allows the men to rape the women in the group and disowns her daughter for being too “weak” to take of care of herself.

The thing about the Whisperers is we don’t see them until after the All Out War with Negan and The Saviors. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the first half of The Walking Dead Season 7 focus on Rick following Negan’s orders until he sees an opportunity to take him down. The Negan storyline is so complex, there really isn’t much room for The Whisperers.

Another important part in The Whisperers comic book storyline is that Negan is no longer a “threat” by the time they group is introduced. We won’t give too much away, but Negan has met his match in Rick.

The Walking Dead Season 7 premieres Oct. 23 on AMC.
